FAQ

Can I choose which screen or window to record?
Yes, Lapse supports targeted capturing. You can select to record a full screen (including external monitors) or choose a specific application window. Minimized windows and system background processes are automatically filtered out.
    Which operating systems are supported?
Lapse is fully supported on both macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon) and Windows.
Is there a free trial available?
Yes, Lapse offers a 7-day free trial so you can test all features on your device. After the trial, you can activate the app using a license key.
Where are my recorded frames and timelapses stored?
Lapse is 100% offline and privacy-first by design. Individual screenshots are stored locally in your system's temporary directory during the session and are deleted immediately after export. Your finalized timelapses are exported to your local folder of choice (defaulting to ~/Documents/Lapse). Your screen data never leaves your computer.
How does background recording and auto-pause work?
Lapse runs quietly in your system tray/menu bar and automatically pauses recording when your system locks, when a screensaver starts, or if a targeted application window is closed. It automatically resumes once you unlock or reopen the target app.
What format options and exports are available?
You can compile your frames into MP4 (H.264), WebM (VP9), MKV, AVI, MOV, or GIF. You can also customize the playback framerate (FPS), quality mapping (High, Medium, Low), and output resolution scale (100%, 75%, 50%).
Something's wrong. How do I get in touch?
