Follow these steps to install and configure Lapse on your device. Works on macOS 12+ (Intel & Apple Silicon) and Windows 10 / 11.

Download the Disk Image

Download the macOS installer (.dmg) from your order confirmation receipt or email.

Drag to Applications

Double-click the .dmg file, then drag the Lapse app icon into your /Applications folder shortcut.

Authorize Gatekeeper

Because Lapse is distributed directly, macOS may show a developer verification warning on first open.

How to open

Right-click (or Control-click) Lapse.app in Applications
Select Open from the context menu
Click Open on the verification dialog to authorize

Terminal alternative

zsh / bash

Instantly clear macOS quarantine attributes by running this command in Terminal:

xattr -cr /Applications/Lapse.app

Download the MSI Installer

Download the Windows setup (.msi) file from your order confirmation receipt or email.

Run Installer

Double-click the installer and follow the standard installation wizard. No admin tweaks required.

Bypass SmartScreen if prompted

If Windows SmartScreen blocks the installation because it is a new app build:

Click on More info inside the alert popup
Click the Run anyway button to finalize installation

Required Permissions

Lapse is a local-only tool that captures screenshots. You must grant the Screen Recording permission (macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording) or Windows user access privileges. No visual or screen content is ever uploaded to the cloud.
